While many people pop into pet stores to purchase treats for their pup, making them at home is also a popular option. There are so many delicious combinations you can create when you decide you make your own treats - plus you can make them healthy and feel good about the ingredients you are feeding your pet. Here are 4 quick homemade dog treat recipes to try out!


FROZEN WATERMELON PUPSICLES

What You Need:

  • 1/4 of a full-sized watermelon (seedless)
  • 1 can of coconut milk


Instructions:

  • Scoop out a quarter of the watermelon
  • Blend the watermelon and coconut milk together (you can add more watermelon for a darker pink color)
  • Pour into an ice cube tray and freeze!


YUMMY PEANUT BUTTER & PUMPKIN TREATS

What You Need:

  • 2 ½ cups of whole wheat flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup of canned pumpkin
  • 2 tablespoons of peanut butter
  • 1/2 a teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 a teaspoon of ground cinnamon


Instructions:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F
  • Whisk together the flour, eggs, pumpkin, peanut butter, salt, and cinnamon in a bowl. Add water as needed to help make the dough workable, but the dough should be dry and stiff
  • Roll the dough into a 1/2-inch-thick roll. Cut into 1/2-inch pieces using any cookie cutter shape you like
  • Bake in the preheated oven until hard (about 40 minutes)


DELICIOUS GINGER & APPLE DOG TREATS

What You Need:

  • 1 cup of brown rice flour 
  • 1/2 cup finely diced apple
  • 2/3 cup of plain Greek yogurt 
  • 1/2 tsp of finely minced fresh ginger (or1 tsp ground ginger)
  • 1 tablespoon of coconut oil


Instructions:

  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F
  • Combine all of the ingredients in a large mixing bowl and stir together until well combined
  • Place mixture on a floured, flat surface and roll out with a rolling pin to approximately ¼"
  • Cut into desired shapes and place on a baking sheet coated with a nonstick spray
  • Bake for 25 minutes or until golden brown


CREAMY PEANUT BUTTER & COCONUT OIL DOG TREATS

What You Need:

  • 1 cup of all-natural peanut butter
  • 1 teaspoon of unprocessed coconut oil
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • Silicone mold tray


Instructions:

  • Place coconut oil in a small saucepan over medium-low heat and cook until melted
  • Add in the peanut butter and cinnamon. Stir until mixture is completely smooth and thoroughly mixed. The mixture should be thick, but pourable.
  • Pour mixture into silicone molds and freeze until set
  • Carefully remove treats from tray and store in an air-tight container in the freezer (they soften quickly)
